Area Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative said the incident rendered him without words and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
