Simultaneously, a young boy was killed in a separate aerial attack in the Zaporizhzhia region in the country's south-east, based on information from local officials.

Officials stated that numerous aerial vehicles and more than 30 projectiles struck Ukraine's energy infrastructure, characterizing such attacks as "cynical and calculated" and against "critical infrastructure" as the weather cools.

Energy officials said Russia was "launching a major assault" and repair crews were working to fix the damage.

A series of attacks struck power facilities and apartment buildings in the capital.
